Live Oaks is based on a photo I took at Fort Fisher. The way the trees twist and seem to form a giant living mass is mesmerizing. The painting weaves the outlines of the trees into a color block pattern, where each segment can be read as forming part of multiple trees. It's almost a meditative process, trying to follow where each branch begins or ends. The color palette represents the peaceful, natural tones of the area.
